Last year Coca-Cola was still up to the same environmental villainry. More recycling advertising campaigns and killed bottle-fee bills which have been long proven to massively boost recycling rates but also push the cost of recycling from the consumer onto the manufacturer. That’s also detailed in the previous link.
Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking that large corporations care about this world or anything in it other than profit. They’ll engage in charity as an investment if the campaign offers good return for their brand value and public image, but don’t think for a second we can get capitalists to behave ethically through any other means than forcing them to do it.
This is what the village idiot sounds like on Twitter.
I love how conservatives have turned a global pandemic into their own little personal freedom victimization tantrum. #ZeroCommonSense
It’s because social distancing is an act of community solidarity- of taking on small sacrifices and inconveniences in order to benefit the vulnerable people around us.
And conservatives have spent the last 40 years snarking about Personal Responsibility and spitting in the face of any social obligation to others.
People like this literally take pride in not thinking of others, in recklessly endangering others, because they have spent decades trying to paint any measure to create social safety nets as Evil Socialism and a Moral Failure.
Louder for the conservatives with the wax of misplaced self entitlement in their ears
boris johnson’s speech about the UK coronavirus outbreak was literally the ‘some of you will die but that is a risk i am prepared to take’ speech from shrek verbatim
“we’ve done what we can to contain this disease”
no school closures, no ban on public gatherings, no lockdown in heavily affected areas, no testing for those showing mild cold symptoms just advised to stay at home for 7 days, no mandatory self-isolation for those living with confirmed cases (a huge problem in london where EVERYONE flatshares), no limitations to public transport, no museum closures, no cinema closures. but it’s ok, all public restrooms have a4 posters reminding people to wash their hands, job done for this tory government.
i hate when ur in public somewhere and something goes mildly wrong/something inconvenient happens and the nearest baby boomer tries to get you to complain with them
what does this even mean
EXAMPLE:
you are in line at mcdonalds. its really busy and the employees are overwhelmed. it’s taking a long time. you are minding your own business. the old man in line next to you says to you, “boy, this is absolutely ridiculous, isn’t it? these kids working just dont know what they’re doing. Or they just dont care…” you awkwardly nod and take a step to the side
This has probably been said a million times before but: Defend the employees.
Really, you’re never going to see Karen from Stubenville again in your life, so side-eye her real good and say:
“It’s not thier fault they’re understaffed. Having worked retail before, they’d love to have another three or five people back there helping out. But since the whole ‘downsizing’ craze of the ninties, companies try to get as much out of thier employees as possible without regard for thier welfare, or the effect on service. You should really get on McD’s website and complain about the chronic understaffing and tell them you’re willing to pay more elsewhere for better service. They LISTEN to people like you.”
People love to complain, especially entitled people. The good news is that they’re easily redirected with mild praise and a shiny new target. Butter the elders and aim them at the bourgoise.
